We are now an official Hey Girls donations partner

15th October 2021

We’re so excited to announce that we’re now an official Hey Girls “Buy one, Gift one” donation partner.

For every item sold, Hey Girls donate the equivalent product to someone in need in the UK. Since Hey Girls started in 2018, they’ve given out over 18 million environmentally-friendly period products through a network of 150 community partner organisations such as women’s refuges, homeless shelters and food banks. Their aim is to eradicate period poverty in the UK, enable better access to quality period products for all and to stomp out the stigma and bust the myths and taboos that surround periods.

Our “help yourself” basket

Although period products are now free in Scotland for anyone who needs them we know it’s not always easy to ask for them and that’s why we keep a box of products just inside our front door. Anyone who needs them can just pop in and grab what they need..no need to ask.

Being a Hey Girls partner means we will be able to provide as wide a variety of products as possible for anyone who needs them. We’ve now got pads, tampons, cups, reusable pads and period pants as well as a stock their booklets “It’s that time of the month” and “A Dad’s guide to periods” both full of helpful facts and information. Not only will we have a wide variety of products, they’re all ethically sourced and plastic free.

At the foodbank we see a lot of people who are struggling to afford sanitary products. If your unable to afford food you’re likely to be unable to afford vital sanitary products or be forced to prioritise other purchases, leaving you without the right period products, without enough period products, or without any period products at all.

With more people than ever expected to be struggling this year we’re even more committed to making sure no one in our community has to make unacceptable choices or gets caught short.

We wholeheartedly agree with Hey Girls that access to quality period products is a right, not a privilege.  Free products can keep people in school, improve concentration, encourage participation in sport, and support good health. They prevent people having to make unacceptable choices resulting in wearing the wrong product, an inadequate product and to wear a product for longer than is hygienic or safe. Free products not only help end period poverty, they promote equality.

Remember if you get caught short, we’ve got you covered.
